ALUMNI IMPACT AT THE CISV GLOBAL CONFERENCE
CISV alumni represented and made a powerful impact at the CISV Global Conference!
There was applause, laughter, and tears as three CISV alums – Caecilia von Peski (Netherlands), David Wertheimer (USA) and Reynaldo Laguda (Philippines) – spoke of the impact their CISV experience had on them and their amazing careers. Over 500 CISVers from around the world gave Caecilia (Section Chief, Peace Programming, UN Development Programme), David (Director of Community and Civic Engagement, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) and Rey (Executive Director, Philippine Business for Social Progress) a standing ovation at the end of their entertaining and thought-provoking StoryTelling panel discussion, led by Alumni Association director Daniel Edelshaim. Read more about Caecilia, David and Rey.
A very distinguished alum also made a surprise, virtual appearance at the conference. Justice Ruth Ginsberg, member of the Supreme Court of the United States and founder of the New York Chapter of CISV USA, sent a video. Justice Ginsberg reminisced about how she was struck by the ideals of CISV and determined to set up a Chapter, before sending her best wishes for a fruitful conference.
Finally, the conference was closed by a wonderful performance by Emmy nominated and Latin Grammy winning alum Gaby Moreno (Guatemala). Gaby led delegates in songs familiar to CISVers past and present (including, of course, Leaving on a Jet Plane and Imagine), as well as some of her own compositions. It is, though, her cover of Here in this Village that many will remember as the special highlight of her performance and the conference.
The CISV Global Conference was held in the Netherlands and was attended by over 520 active CISVers and CISV alumni, from 60 countries. You can read about some of what happened on the conference blog and see some great photos and social media posts of the event. The next Global Conference will be in 2021 (location to be decided) and will close the 70 th anniversary celebrations of CISV. We hope you’ll join us!
